Cause: Bad Lid Switch

Upon arrival the following morning, our technician was able to quickly diagnose and determine the problem, which was a bad lid switch. He explained to the customer that the way their Kenmore washer works, for a spin cycle to begin, it is necessary for the washer to get a proper signal that the lid is closed. That is a safety feature built in because when the tub is spinning at high speed, injury could result if someone were able to put their hand into it while it was spinning.

The lid switch is what confirms to the controls that the lid is properly closed and the spin cycle can run. The JB Appliance Solutions technician confirmed that the lid switch had indeed failed, and since the model number and complaint was known in advance, he came prepared with the correct part to fix the problem immediately once the customer approved the repair.

Solution: Replaced Lid Switch

The technician explained the issue to the customer and showed them the broken lid switch. He provided the exact price for the repair and the repair was approved. The Kenmore washer was quickly taken apart far enough to access the lid switch and its wiring, and was soon back in perfect running order. The technician ran a complete cycle and confirmed that it would now drain and spin properly, and this was demonstrated to the customer.
